Jason Hallman et Stephen Stum, forment un duo d’artistes basé dans le nord-ouest du Pacifique. Ils fusionnent talent et vision pour créer une sculpture aux multiples facettes. Ils trouvent l’inspiration dans les modèles et les gradients du monde naturel. Le duo a combiné leurs noms Stum et Hallman pour créer STALLMAN Studio. Lors de la création de leurs œuvres, l’un agit comme le côté droit du cerveau et l’autre comme le côté gauche. Cette union dissout les limites de ce qui est possible en transformant l’ordinaire en extraordinaire.

Stallman, pionnier d’une nouvelle technique qu’ils appellent Canvas on Edge, un nouvel art utilisant la peinture et la toile comme sculpture. Ils prennent la toile et la peinture et donnent à ces matériaux une interprétation créative. La toile prend le rôle principal: créer la forme, la surbrillance et le mouvement.

La toile découpée en bandeaux, puis collés par le rebord de la largeur, crée une ligne surélevée et, vu de biais, des champs de couleur apparaissent lorsque la perspective change. Chaque longueur de toile peinte est liée à elle-même mais aussi à l’arrière-plan, ce qui crée une structure rigide dans le cadre. La teinte de la toile peinte se reflète sur le fond, créant ainsi un spectre de couleurs. En utilisant la lumière réfléchie, le pigment et la structure, ils multiplient les teintes et les tons dans chaque sculpture.

Jason Hallman conçoit ses oeuvres comme peintures excavées- «Mes peintures sont superposées, créant ainsi une chronologie de la géologie de l’acrylique. Le champ est ensuite excavé et sculpté, révélant des couches et des visions du passé. La couleur et les textures émergent de cette fouille archéologique alors que je cherche une nouvelle vérité en créant une nouvelle histoire»

Hallman and Stum, showing both Nationally and Internationally are a Pacific Northwest based artist duo, that merge talent and vision to create multifaceted sculpture. They find inspiration from patterns and gradients in the natural world. The duo also combined their names Stum and Hallman to create Stallman. While creating, one acts as the right side of the brain and the other the left. This union dissolves the boundaries of what is possible turning the ordinary into extraordinary.

Canvas on Edge – Stallman is pioneering a new technique and new art form using paint and canvas as sculpture, naming this body of work Canvas on Edge. They are taking canvas and paint and giving it a creative edge. Canvas has been given the leading role, creating form, highlight and movement.

The cut edge of the canvas creates an elevated line drawing and when seen at an angle, fields of color emerge as your perspective to the piece changes. Each length of painted canvas is bonded to itself and to the background creating a rigid structure within the frame. The hue of the painted canvas reflects on the background creating a spectrum of color. By using reflected light, pigment and structure they multiply the hues and tones within each sculpture.

Excavated Paintings – Jason Hallman – My paintings are layered one on top of the other, building up a timeline of acrylic geology. The field is then excavated and carved revealing layers and visions from the past. Color and textures emerge from this archeological dig as I search for a new truth and create a new story.
